Our research

Manchester Met’s research is focused on five world-transforming missions – each committed to advancing understanding of the pressing problems facing our planet and global society. They drive a better understanding of the world around us, advancing knowledge and delivering new insights. The missions are:

  • Tackling inequalities
  • Championing creative excellence
  • Leading sustainability
  • Transforming health
  • Driving economic growth

90% of our research impact was rated as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent” in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 and we have four subjects in the top 10 for research power — Art and Design, Education, English and Sport.

Our portfolio of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) supports businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance through access to research, technical expertise and advanced facilities. We are a top 5 UK university for KTPs.

Our new Doctoral College brings together and supports our doctoral community to help them grow their research and develop as research leaders of the future. You can access training, support and wider networks through our Doctoral Services team to develop yourself and your research alongside academics in your field.
